North West
The North West province is known as the Platinum Belt of South Africa, mining gold, uranium, platinum and diamonds. Its tourism industry is dominated by the famous Sun City Casino and Resort and the Pilansberg National Park, as well as the Rustenburg Nature Reserve and the Madikwe Game Reserve. The northern and western parts of the province have many sheep farms and cattle and game ranches. The eastern and southern parts are crop-growing regions that produce maize, sunflowers, tobacco, cotton, and citrus fruits. Most of the province’s economic activity is concentrated between Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp and Rustenburg.
